'Nothingness03'
Part 3 of the REFLECTIONS collection

The reflection of the true self is nothingness.

Our true self is revealed when there is total absence of external stimuli and therefore the absence of reflection. Without reflection nothing exists. Everything we see, perceive or feel is only a reflection.

The stainless sphere sits on the edge of its own reflection of the true self: nothingness

I have mounted the stainless steel sphere on a thin copper sheet to illustrate the precarity, fragility and dynamics of reflections. For a reflection to exist, many parameters need to converge in concert such as a light source and reflecting surfaces. All reflections change overtime and are therefore dynamic in nature. The thin copper plate oscillates when gently tapped.
