Charred

Statement: Inspired by the effects of the fires on the landscape and our lives, Charred is a reflection on what lingers behind after a natural disaster occurs. The fires in California have impacted many lives and emotional well beings from smokey skies, to evacuations, to our sense of safety. The trees are left marked long after the fires come through just as the effects linger on our mental health. The charcoal on the handmade paper is made from rubbings from burnt trees. While there is weight in these places that have been burned, beauty and quiet can also be found.
