Reincarnation Dream

20”x24” encaustic/ mixed media, 2020 April. 

This painting was done by taping magnets on the back of the wood panel and embedding iron filings into the hot wax to preserve the displayed magnetic fields. Thus, the magnets could be removed when the molten wax hardened.

Those who have been close to me know that I talk about wanting to be a tree in my next life recurrently. I admire trees for resilience, strength and resistance to injuries and diseases. Unfortunately for me, I am a scientist and atheist and I don’t really believe in the afterlife. However, I am also a painter who still believes in art and imagination, and that fantasy can take me wherever I want to be - through color, shape and texture.
