Artist Statement: I live two blocks from where George Floyd was murdered. In order to deal with the overwhelming turmoil in my city as well as the isolation from my friends due to the pandemic, I began this series of collage paintings. The first layer consists of a collage with catastrophic images. The second layer consists of individual squares of neutral kozo paper that cover the tumultuous images. The final layer is the painting which is my hope for our future wellbeing.
